Skincare: Why You Should Take Care of Your Skin Now

Skincare: Why You Should Take Care of Your Skin Now

“Our skin isn’t just a cosmetic covering—it’s the first line of defense in our immune systems. Insufficiently hydrated, it can’t do that job.”

“Bacteria and viruses that collect on our surfaces can easily penetrate dry, cracked skin.”

These are the words of author and superfoods expert Darin Olien from his book entitled SuperLife.

Realistically speaking, when it comes to our body in general, we have tons of responsibilities that need paramount attention — health-wise. There’s a myriad of topics we have to go through to better understand our overall health. But, for now, let’s focus more on our largest organ — our skin.

As mentioned earlier, our skin is our first and best line of defense. We don’t want to overdo the “caring process” because we also have trillions of good bacteria residing on our skin — we want them to do their job, as they should, with less interference on our end. Even parents of newborns are advised to bathe their babies at least 3x a week only.

To quote Jennifer Kelly Geddes’ article on What to Expect:

“There’s no need to bathe your baby every day, as too much tub time might dry out his/her tender skin. More importantly, babies don’t get dirty enough to need daily baths until they’re crawling around and eating solid (messy!) foods. Until then, two or three baths a week with mild soap and shampoo is plenty. “

Jennifer Kelly Geddes is a New York City-based freelance writer and editor, who covers health, wellness, pregnancy, and parenting.

As our little one grows, their experience and encounter with the world around them can dictate how much immunity they will be gaining just by merely interacting with whatever nature serves their playful plate — whether it be socializing with other kids, walking/running barefoot & chasing after animals/insects, cuddling with dogs, messing around in muddy puddles, digging garden soil, and the whole nine yards of free play.

Research can show and prove that the right amount of exposure to the environment can strengthen a person’s immunity versus living in a bubble that may just drive one’s body to oversensitivity when introduced to a setting that is still considered “foreign” to a person’s being. But because our world has vastly changed at present, the mechanics of these things may be dealt with differently; it is a challenge for parents with younger kids (we hear you), but we just have to be careful and expand our sense of alertness when going out.

If our skin’s protective wall breaks down (epidermis), it’s easier for foreign particles to get in. On a brighter note, we also have our allies, and these are the beneficial microorganisms that our skin hosts. They thrive when they are nurtured properly; they help combat the bad ones (germs, bacteria, viruses) as their job is primarily to safeguard our entire body by training our immune systems to tell which microorganism is a friend or foe.

What we feed our skin and how we do it will have ripple effects over time — we might as well do it the “healthy and natural” way. Some of the methods we can do are the following:

💚 always eat healthy foods (if you want naturally glowing skin, try fruits and veggies that are rich in beta-carotene)

💚 drink at least 8 glasses of water daily (6-8 glasses for younger kids) -- the more hydrated we are, the better our cells will function in all areas of our body including our skin

💚 safely harnessing the benefits of outdoor activity — which can help develop a well-trained immune system

💚 soaking up vitamin D (early in the morning)

💚 keep your hands clean and free from dryness round-the-clock (very important)

💚 use skincare that upholds skin health for the entire family

As for skincare, Sacred sufficiently provides the right ingredient/formula for proper skin nourishment:

💧 it is fragrance-free

💧 it has a ph of 5 which is the human body’s ph (our skin’s ph isn’t actually neutral — which makes it harder for harmful bacteria to grow)

💧 Sacred is purely plant-based

💧 it has hydrating properties — contains an active ingredient component that is identical to the carbohydrates complex of the skin

To end, here’s a quote from one of the experts interviewed in

Skin, Explained (A Documentary):

“Our skin is our beacon for our overall health.”

So, let's always keep our skin healthy and hydrated.
